Frequently Asked Questions
Straight answers to the questions you're actually asking.
Will it hurt?
Most guys are surprised how little they feel. Acupuncture needles are hair-thin, nothing like getting a shot or blood draw.
You might feel some pressure, maybe a dull ache when the needle hits the right spot. That's actually a good sign. Nothing you can't handle. 80% of men who were nervous about needles say it was way easier than they expected.
How long before I notice results?
Acute issues (recent injury or flare-up): 2-4 weeks, 2x per week. You'll notice improvement within the first few treatments.
Chronic problems (years of pain): 8-12 weeks, 1x per week. Pattern recognition takes time. We're finding root causes, not just chasing symptoms.
Maintenance: Once you're stable, monthly tune-ups prevent flare-ups and keep you working at full capacity. Individual results vary depending on condition severity and commitment.
Will it last or just come back?
Depends on the problem. Acute injuries (recent strain, flare-up) respond fast and hold well. Chronic conditions (years of pain) need ongoing maintenance.
Think of it like your truck. If you blow a tire, you fix it once. If your alignment's off from years of rough roads, you need regular tune-ups to prevent breakdown.
Most men need 8-12 treatments before switching to monthly maintenance. Maintenance prevents relapse and catches problems before they sideline you from work.
Is this legitimate medicine?
Yes. Traditional Chinese Medicine is regulated in BC. I'm a registered practitioner (R.TCM.P) with the College of Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners of BC. Former President of that regulatory body (2007-2010).
20 years clinical practice, 5,000+ patients treated. Doctor of Traditional Chinese Medicine (DTCM), senior designation. Residency completed in China.
Your extended health benefits cover acupuncture because insurance companies recognize it works. They don't pay for things that don't have evidence.
What's the time commitment?
Initial treatment: 60 minutes (full history, diagnosis, first treatment, plan)
Follow-ups: 45 minutes (assessment, acupuncture, home care)
Scheduling: Tuesday, Thursday, Friday. After-work appointments available (4:30-7pm). Lunch break slots near job sites (12-1pm). No time off work required.
Book from your truck. Phone or video consultations available. We respect your work schedule.
Will my benefits cover this?
Most extended health plans cover 80-100% of acupuncture with a registered TCM practitioner.
Standard plans: $500-$1,000 per year (5-8 treatments)
Premium plans: $1,500-$3,000 per year (12-20 treatments)
Union/First responders: $1,000-$2,000 per year, 90-100% coverage
Your typical out-of-pocket cost: $15-$30 per treatment after benefits.
Check your benefits card or call your provider. We can help you verify coverage during your free consultation.
What if it doesn't work?
Honest assessment after 3-4 treatments. If we're not seeing progress, I'll tell you. No point wasting your time or money.
Some conditions respond better than others. Chronic pain, musculoskeletal issues, stress-related problems respond well. Structural damage (torn ligaments, severe disc herniation) might need surgery or other interventions.
We work with your doctor, physio, chiropractor. If you need something else, I'll refer you out. Collaborative care, not ego.
Why should I trust you?
You shouldn't trust anyone blindly. Do your research.

What should I wear to appointments?
Come as you are. Work clothes are fine. You'll need access to areas we're treating (roll up sleeves, pant legs). No need to change unless you want to.
Can I come straight from work?
Yes. After-work appointments are specifically for guys coming straight from job sites. No judgment. Bring your work boots and hard hat. We get it.
What if I need to cancel or reschedule?
Life happens. Job sites run late. Weather delays. Just let us know as soon as you can. Text or email works. We'll reschedule, no problem.
